CASE
INTEGRATION OF A STRETCH HOOD PACKAGING MACHINE
CHALLENGE
The stretch hood machine used to package stacks of insulation panels was not running in sync with the feed from the production line. A conveyor system was needed with a feed rate as close as possible to the stretch hooder’s maximum speed. It is also important that the production line not be shut down, even if the packaging machine experiences a brief glitch.
An additional requirement was to occasionally feed stacks from a different line—with different sizes and weights—onto the conveyor system.
SOLUTION
IMA handled the design, construction, and control of a conveyor system that initially feeds the stacks at the same speed as the stretch hood machine.
If there is a problem with the machine, the stacks can be diverted in the other direction with the push of a button. There, they are removed manually so that the production line can continue to run. The stacks can be packaged later.
In addition, you can manually place stacks from other production lines onto the conveyor system for packaging.
ADDED VALUE
With the addition of this completely new system, the stacks from the production line are transferred to the stretch hood machine in a single motion. The stability of the bulky packages is significantly improved during transport.
Under normal production conditions, no manual operations are required. At the same time, the system offers the flexibility to temporarily store the stacks or, in exceptional cases, to package stacks from other lines.
